A new station building

Or: How to turn Susch into Wiesen

A visit to my trusted model train dealer was the catalyst for the station building's replacement since he mentioned in passing to have acquired one of the buildings made by Grosse Modelle each year - an excellent idea !

And there were two further good reasons why to invest in a new building. On the one hand more than plenty of rolling stock already exists and on the other the variety of new items for LGB's 50th anniversary was simply disappointing.

After it had become clear that a fully featured model of the Filisur station building would not integrate with the existing scenario, I decided to go for a model of the Wiesen station building. Fortunately, Grosse Modelle was able to adapt the model's interior design so that it can hold the electrical junction boxes in its intended place.

The manufacturer personally delivers his models - a packaging for a safe shipment probably would be more expensive given the model's massive implementation. The overall impression as well as the details and the surface texture are convincing and don't compare to the well-known manufacturers' plastic models.
A few self-made, prototypical signs and a clock round out the picture. Just the lighting is still missing...

White ABS panelling was mounted inside the roof to improve the lighting effect. The speaker for playing announces was mounted behind the freight area's doors.
The exterior lighting on the building's side facing the street looks a tad minimalist but reflects the prototype. The lamp made by Beli-Beco fits perfectly.

The fluorescent fitting - made by Beli-Beco as well - for the platform area was equipped with a mounting made from brass rods which allows for easy fastening beneath the roof overhang.

The fluorescent tube isn't a fluorescent tube - it contains two LEDs. Their colour temperature and the light guide provide for a surprisingly realistic impression. The fully functional station clock adds to the overall impression a lot.

The model of the Wiesen station building is a perfect match for this scenario as opposed to previous misgivings. New city limit signs had to be made too, of course...

The building itself and its implementation provide for a beautiful picture together with the other buildings and the numerous details.

Technical details like the bell signal system, the clock, the fluorescent tube beneath the roof overhang as well as signs turn the model into a real eye-catcher.

The lighting's effects show up at dark in a nice manner. Less indeed is more sometimes.

To quote a well-known expert:

This change really really paid off !
