Annual spring-cleaning

In addition to removing the autumn's and winter's residues, the electrical junction boxes along the tracks which contain the controllers were subject to the annual inspection. The boxes which are not hidden inside of buildings first were freed from a year's natural cover....

After removing the stone camouflage, soil and grass appear...

Inspection of the interior of ten such boxes regarding moisture.

This annual in-quarters inspection incorporates checking the screwed contacts' condition and replacing the desiccant, which is used to prevent moisture caused by condensation. Sourcing of new desiccant is not necessary since the used desiccant can be regenerated at 120°C/250°F in the cooker.

A strong walker

is what I ever since called LGB's RhB Ge4/4 III 641 Maienfeld, but the replication of the LGB model's bogies does not match the RhB prototype. The bogies' lateral cross beams originate from the first LGB Ge4/4 III model which was based upon a MOB engine. These cross beams (used with the MOB-specific brake system only) never were removed for later RhB models. This had to be remedied:

The adaption to RhB conditions took barely one hour. A suitable side cutter, a small needle file and abrasive paper with a grit of 600 for a final wet grinding were sufficient for a successful operation.

At long last...

the layout got its electrical spring-cleaning and the tracks had been cleaned as well. Finally I was able to enjoy the vehicles in the wild which I tuned inside during wintertime...

Pimped LGB RhB 641 and also pimped Kiss panorama coaches.

On Ruegen naturalized China-Saxons traversing the lately cleaned pond.

Anxiously awaiting the summer now...
