And now for something completely different: Running short of danish delicacies

Since liver pâté and several other foods only available beyond Flensburg were expected to be consumed completely soon, the only way out was a visit to our danish neighbours and to raid the next Bruggsen supermarket there. A walk at the shore was thought to be a good idea when travelling back home which led us to

Dagebuell...

Arriving there, I catched sight of this (at least for me) surprising compilation:

A VT71 of the local railway company with two Bim IC-coaches near the Dagebuell level crossing.

What was the reason for this slightly odd looking compilation of vehicles ? Perhaps the local train company NEG had bought some Bim coaches which had been sorted out for its own operations ?

A few mintes later: The same vehicles on Dagebuell jetty after some shunting.

The riddle's solution is that the cars are through coaches on trains from the south towards the isle of Sylt, which are picked up by the NEG in Niebuell and carried to Dagebuell jetty then.

Behind the dike - the next surprise was lurking

What I despite the place erroneously at first took for a light railway for dike maintenance purposes, quite quickly turned out to be the railway towards the marsh islands of Oland and Langeness.

A level crossing on the dike's landside.

A grate recessed into the ground prevents sheep from the dike from intruding
the facilities without the need of installing a gate.

It's the starting point for both private and municipal operations.

Remembered of soap box cars and covered wagons ? Even so effective !

Motor, lights, buffers, seats ... - nothing is missing.

Tractive unit with portholes - which will not influence the unit's buoyancy

MOT and license plates - obviously a must even in this place.

According to the vehicle's equipment shown on the right, one is tempted to assume this convoy might be used for push-pull operation...

Operations of this light railway must be really interesting when it comes to storm at the North Sea. One can find pictures of this scenario and much more information on

www.inselbahn.de and Wikipedia.
